This training course will be a powerful introduction to the new 2014 Computing Curriculum for primary school teachers and subject leaders. Based on practical activities that can be used with pupils in school, delegates will get to grips with the terminology and pedagogies that are needed for the Computing curriculum.  Delegates will use visual programming tools and look at how the new national curriculum can be translated into a broad and balanced local school curriculum.

 

Programme for the day

The day will start at 9am and finish at approx 15.45 - 16.00.

As outlined above, the programme for the day will include:

  • An Introduction to the 2014 Primary Computing curriculum
    Understanding what the new curriculum means
  • Becoming familiar with the new curriculum and approaches to pedagogy
    Hands-on practical opportunities with visual programming tools; learning about terminology and pedagogy in classroom contexts
  • Considerations when developing a new scheme of work
    Developing a broad and balanced approach to the Computing curriculum; auditing the existing school curriculum, resources and staff skills
  • From a national curriculum to a school curriculum
    Taking ownership of the new curriculum and approaches to assessment; getting started with designing a school curriculum
